Hong Soun(b.1959) studied Fine Arts at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and since then has been working based in Seoul and Europe. He has been recognized for his experimental and original works in various media and genres. Hong continues to work as one of the leading postmodern artists, with a philosophical thesis that the world's various elements, such as politics, economics, and culture, are part and whole.

 

He recently participated in the following selected solo exhibitions, including 《Over there》(CR Collective, Seoul, Korea, 2023), 《Sidescape – Disaster, Family》(Savina Museum, Seoul, Korea, 2022) and 《The winner of 17th LEE Insung Art Prize, Hong Soun : La Vie En Rose》(Daegu Art Museum, Daegu, Korea, 2017). His recent selected group exhibitions are 《The Order of Time》(SEOJUNG ART, Seoul, Korea), 《Memory, Stare, Wish》(Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, Ansan, Korea, 2024), 《Instead of a Result, a Process》(M5 Gallery, Tokyo, Japan, 2023), 《Whose Story Is This》(Museum of Contemporary Art Busan, Busan, Korea, 2022) and 《My Your Memory》(MMCA Seoul, Seoul, Korea, 2022). He was awarded the 1st Hoban Art Prize in 2023, the 17th Lee In-sung Art Prize in 2016, and the 2015 Jeon Hyuk-rim Art Prize. His works are in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul Museum of Art, Gyeonggi-do Museum of Art, Hoam Museum of Art, École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and the Supreme Court.
